My inbox rolling with party invites and reminders for events happening around Cape Town for New Years Eve.
What’s the big deal anyways? I used to be big on the celebrating – guess I have outgrown that now. I used to go to Synergy parties that used to be held at the River Club in Observatory. Those were fun parties. Kinda like what Vortex is doing these days having Bands, Trance etc – many options not just one genre.
Synergy used to have trance, live bands, smaller tents for e.g. drum n bass and jungle and another say for lounge. I remember seeing SpringBok Nude Girls there for the first time when they were still big and a band – yes they back together but back then they were together if you know what I mean. It used to have main sections like Hard House, Trance, Live Bands and I can’t remember the fourth one.
What I liked about this is that this way you get to spend your New Years with all or most of your friends. This way everyone in your circle of friends can be pleased and you not left deciding which friend’s party to go to or which party to go to because your friend’s choices are scattered. Well in my case its like that because of my interest in various genre and ability to still enjoy myself with my choices of genre. For info, this happens to be dancehall, reggae, dub, dubstep, ska, house (mainly deep house bit of trancehouse), lounge, hip hop, trance, can do hard house but not too much, can do rock but not too hard these days. No offence Ryan but its that stuff I normally tell you to put softer when you playing it. I used to like it but ya, people change.
Since Synergy ended, I don’t really remember doing anything big for NYE.
- 2007: home
- 2006: can’t remem but I think I was with my JHB friends and was in Long Street – if not 2006 then 2005
- 2000/1: Vortex
- Yaw, this is hard!
- 1999: with my ex Stanton at his place
- 1998: Synergy
The point of listing it is cause we can’t even remember what we done each year to celebrate the stupid evening. Apologies to those that I forgot or if I got the year wrong. Why all the stressing then Ana? I dunno? Its a I want to feel good need?
These were my options this year:
- Rasta rebels and Goldfish at Kirstenbosch NYE Concert , Tickets cost R200
- Vortex Trance Party, R300 +
- Rudimentals, Bastille & Little Kings at Zula Sound Bar, R80
- Watch Waterfron’t firework display from my place (great view) – free and stay home
I know what my choice is going to be but that is not what is important. The importance is that we all do what we find the most fun in doing, that we all safe, happy, entertained and live to see the New Year and preferably sober!
I warmly welcome 2009 and look forward to many many interesting things ahead.
In life, we go through things, we take the best of it and move forward. One sayin I have lived by years, and i can only look back and smile and say thanks for not being stuck in something for too long. . .
My aim is not to be stuck on the bad year I have had, but also not to forget it and to move forward and make up for the time I wasted griping about past issues.
Happy new Year to all of you – be concious, committed , work hard, and aim BIG!
Hug
