If there’s one household chore that is my pet hate, it’s doing the dishes.
I was chatting to a friend on-line telling him about how I spent most of my Saturday washing up my dishes; I have already washed up three racks of dishes and there’s still more!!! also dried up those three racks full of dishes and packed it away. *proud moment*
Thank goodness it rained today, else I would have been out again and again not done the dishes. Or maybe it rained because I done the dishes?
First Rack: all my dinner plates, some mugs and glasses
Second Rack: all my dessert bowls, my smaller pudding bowls, other glass bowls, some big Pyrex dishes
Third Rack: glass jug, chopping boards, more glass bowls, some cutlery
I still have to do loads of plastic containers (Tupperware), and not forgetting each container’s lid; that’s besides the two pots and a pan and most likely the dinner plates we just used for supper.
*sad face*
If I did not have this much crockery available to use, I would not have this mountain of dishes to do every time. I think that three sets of plates i.e. 18 of each size plate, at least 20 mugs, 20 glasses, at least six wine glasses, about 20 of each cutlery, two pots, two pans , is just too much for one person to have.
So yes, I only wash up once all or most of my crockery is dirty. This might sound disgusting to you but at least I rinse before I pile. Still not justifiable I know.

I suddenly want to curse the company ‘Unilever‘ that makes ‘Sunlight Dishwashing Liquid‘.
The song in their advert goes / went like this: “Sun-light, Sun-light and wa-ter, Sun-light and wa-ter, it’s all that you need” – bull shit! Do they know how much effort goes into washing up? The ‘Sunlight Dishwashing Liquid‘ ain’t gonna get the dishes piled up onto the rack, nor dry them off or pack them away. I hate their song!
I am considering having only four of everything – four plates, four knives, four glasses etc. Either that or look into the possibility of purchasing a Dishwasher.

hi Adin,
I haven’t done dishes for weeks now. I have two sets of six of big plates and medium sized ones and saucers, two racks of mugs, a shelf full of glasses, cutlery coming out of my ears. So I will be okay until my stash of plastic cutlery is up – I still have two packs of ten of forks, knives and spoons.
So yes I can wait – just thought you’d appreciate some help with food or whatever you need. Can you survive until then?
No problem re the weekly thing either, just so you know that at least every week, if you in need, you can wash your way to getting whatever is needed. Oh and I usually drip dry my dishes so no drying up needed unless you want to.
To the other readers, you MUST read Adin’s story on surviving without money for five years… it’s been a few months already so I figured I would ask him for help (with my dishes), in return for things he might need.

Hi Anastacia,
LOL, you make me laugh!
Of course I will wash your dishes…seeing as though you hate them so much!
I can’t do it every week though
In fact I am leaving for Joburg tomorrow for just over a week. Do you currently have a pile? Can you survive till I come back?
