Nearly two years since I first went to see what the buzz was about at this Caribbean restaurant down the road. I remember driving by that place (that was once a house) and seeing all the renovations being done and wondered what the place would eventually turn out to be.
Was thrilled to hear that it was another restaurant and it had such a cool name: Jamaica me Crazy.
Tonight after probably attending for the fiftieth time, I described the food as Heavenly and simply felt the need to compliment their amazing food and also for always making want to go back there again. Hell I even got a very fussy friend liking the place so much, he decided to have his 30th birthday there!
We all know what Mondays can be like at the office; that’s right, ![]()
…but Mondays at Jamaica me Crazy, is actually relaxing and chilled out and is still one of my favourite things to do as a start to my busy week ahead.
At their Monday Madness special night, you will be presented with their special Monday menu, and anything on the menu is R35 (35 ZAR). If you happen to get there between 17:00 and 18:00, you could still score your cocktail for R15 (15 ZAR). Try booking your table ahead of time as it is quite popular and is packed especially on Mondays.
Daily you can have the Beat the Traffic special and pay only R15 for your cocktails while waiting for the traffic to die down. i.e. Mondays to Fridays, 5pm to 6pm.
For the totally eager on cocktails type of person, your night is a Wednesday, all night long, all cocktails at an all reduced cost of R15. For the beer lovers, Saturdays would be the day to go there as you can pick up a burger and a draught of beer for just R45.
Some favorites dishes from their menu, that either my friends or I have enjoyed eating there include:
- Jerk Chicken, Camembert and Cranberry
- Vegetarian burger
- * * * Barbados burger
- * * * Camembert, Rocket and Sweet Chilli Burger
- Bob’s Special sandwich
- Kingston Chicken Salad
- Trinidad Roti
( * * * option of choosing from a beef, chicken or veg patty)
~ ~ Yum ~ ~
It’s not the food nor the specials that sparked my interest to always return. The place itself always has a familiar face from the area, friendly easy going bunch of staff employed there, warm buzzing sounds from all around your table.
On summer nights the balcony area tables makes for a beautiful romantic dinner under the stars and overlooking parts of cape town, clear view of the moon on and extra special on full moon nights, expect to hear the sounds of either reggae, Cuban, lounge and ambient type music.
