Can we just have an ADSL line already…PLEASE!

A rough calculation using our bank records gave us evidence of how much money we actually have been spending on Vodacom airtime in the last two years.

It was because of this reason we decided to have a Telkom ADSL line installed – this was back in February 2010. So we applied at the Telkom shop in Canal Walk, completed the forms and I gave my ID copy.

Just over a week or so I received this letter from Telkom. Now in this letter you will see that already they apologised for not installing on time. Note that the date they sent it was 23 February 2010 and there is no name of the person that signed that letter.  They also got my title and name wrong but thats a minor.

Scanned copy of letter (click to enlarge) ->

End of April I had to move because I was evicted as the landlord wanted the place for her “grandson” from JHB. I used to live in Walmer Estate at the address in this letter and I requested that this application just be moved to a new address.

I won’t tell you a word of a lie, but Telkom called me on 30 April (the  Friday before I had to move) , to say that they were going to install the line in Walmer Estate  on Monday 03 May 2010 – the same day the moving van was going to move me…

The place in Walmer Estate also needed a new line installation and the place I now reside in is a new development, this too is needing a new line installed before ADSL can be activated.   So it’s not like my application has changed – only addresses had to be changed.

I have been in contact with one staff member at the Claremont branch today (approx 14 emails back and forth) who is “helping me”.   I had to reapply i.e.  complete the three paged form, indicate all my choices and provide my ID copy again.

Not long after applying I got a email from the unnamed person quoting me for this job:

Once off charges:

line – R468.05

DSL -  R598.31

Like hello, I chose the self-install option so why are you quoting me for one of your guys to install?

Then another email requesting the erf number of the premises – I ran a quick search on the complex website and provided the information of the erf number.

Not long after that I get the last email of today saying “What is the name of the street”????? Erf number! Come on TELKOM!!!

Mad

So yes, another weekend without Telkom ADSL and yes Vodacom, keep chuckling there in the background cause you know that you are going to be getting yet another payment of R389 for a 2 gig data bundle!

I think we just have bad luck with getting an ADSL or what?

How can the same tedious process be happening here at a new address now?

Is it this hard for everyone to get connected to Telkom ADSL?

Does this kind of services happen in other countries?

If there anyone out there that can help that is reading this crap I am going through … please help!
