Step by Step instructions on setting up a solution to help you remember events to attend – especially the tons of event invites you get from your Facebook friends!
I could never remember such a lot of gigs, it's actually not rocket science – I don't remember them, I let my calendar remember them and then Google smses me to remind me.
Thought I'd share how I set this up (for those who don't already know this).
Instructions as follows:
1. Click the Events Bookmark on your Home Page on Facebook
2. After doing that you should scroll right to the end of all your events until you find something that says "Export Events"
3. After clicking on that Export Events link, a box should appear that says: "You can export your Facebook Events into many other programs, such as Apple iCal, Microsoft Outlook, and Google Calendar. Simply click the Export button that appears beneath the picture on any event page or use the following URL to export all your upcoming events:"
4. Copy the url that is given to you
5. In my case, I use Google Calendar cause Google smses me reminders to my cellphone for free
6. So I browsed to my Google Calendar, in my Google calendar on the left below Other Calendars, 1. Click Add then 2. Click Add by URL. and then you paste the url you just copied over there . (click on the image below to assist you)
For other Calendars, I'm guessing try finding something that says Add by URL, or Add calendar address
![]()
7. If it's your first time adding a calendar to your Google calendar, or if it's the first time you using Google calendar, then don't forget to go set up your mobile number in your settings on Google so that Google knows where to send the reminders to. You could also be reminded via email if that's your preference.
8. Set up is now complete, if correctly set up, you should see events in your calendar on Google calendar now.
I found that even if I have not had the time to accept or decline an event yet , it still fed through to Google Calendar. However, if you manually go and decline events on Facebook, the declined events won't appear in your calendar.
9. Smses from Google should now remind you about events - whether important events or not. That way you will always have a choice on that day of the event, about which gig is best to attend
10. Now, not only will you never be able to forget an event; Remember that post I wrote a while ago on Never forgetting birthdays too. This post is actually quite similar to the one I wrote on remembering birthdays

Awesome, was looking for the export calendar feature a couple of months ago and it wasn't there, now it's back, yay!
PS, any advice on how to get rid of spammy events? Events that last 6 months quickly clutter up every single block of you calendar and that's not ayoba. Tried saying not attending and then removed from events, but they still filter through to the calendar. Guess it's going to take some time for events to update to the calendar.
