Twenty seven years old, business background for schooling /tech level, but accidentally got into academic administration at a tertiary institution and been stuck doing that since 2002. It wasn’t a complete waste of time as it gave me insights into many opportunities and gave me lots of experience – but the challenge is no longer and the passion just simply does not lie there any more.
For a while now, I frequented live gigs, Checking out artists perform their music live, I was taking pictures of artists, informing people of their gigs on various social networking websites, just always staying on top of happenings in the music industry. Even after the gig, I’d write up a review sometimes, upload my pictures, link it to the event that was created etc.
I even went to extent of learning bbcode to be able to update the biography’s on last.fm (wasn’t that hard).
Gradually this became my passion and people started recognising it and showing an interest in the promo type work that it is I was doing (apparently it’s called specialist marketing according to Paul).
I started looking into the possibility of actually doing this as a career and most importantly, I wanted to be able to survive and maintain myself still, if I were to resign from the admin position.
Thing that probably made me stay on in the interim, is my fear that the industry was small which meant little room for entering into it and that the artists needing the exposure wouldn’t have the money to pay me to do their promos. So I paused the resignation and just barely sticking out the stress, overload of work, and really trying hard to actually get the oomph to wake up in the morning to go to that place. › Continue reading

On Sunday I was invited to lunch at a friend’s parents’ home -It was her birthday the day before and so celebrations continued the next day.
(now for typing’s sake, I’m abbreviating the word Portuguese to read P…okay?)
Where I grew up, I never had a P friend, never had a P class mate nor did I ever eat at a P‘’s home before.
The area I now reside in used to be all be P owned. In the last five years of my staying here, I have only met one P guy from the area – and so still no real culture check, well at least until Sunday that is.
I felt comfortable and “at home” when I saw the food all laid out on the table. It reminded me of my mom’s Sunday lunch. Each portion in its own glass bowl, each bowl with its own spoon, each person dishes up their own plate of food, all exactly like it used to be for me when I was living with my mom.
The food was no stranger to me – so familiar – even in the taste of it. There was the sweetened butternut with cinnamon, the broccoli and cauliflower, for the meat eaters there was roast chicken, savoury rice but like savoury because its brown of the onions not using spice for rice, sweet potatoes, heck I can’t remember all of the nice stuffies – was just damn good food.
Whilst eating, I looked around in their back yard, noticed how familiar the gardening style was, this again reminded me of my grandmas garden. She used to have grapevines (but the grapes never grew THAT well), the apple tree, the peach/plum whatever tree, guava, banana (even though bananas never really grew) and more.
It got me thinking… › Continue reading

I really don’t know what it is with me, but I find it hard to part with my body parts after it clearly has no more purpose and has been detached from my body.
Well small body parts not limbs (yet..lol)
I do remember keeping all the following as listed below:
- extracted teeth (at least two)
- my dreadlocks that I cut off in 2001, I still have a few of these that I kept
- my first grey hair, framed in a frame and says “my first grey hair” LOLs
- my tonsils (it was in a surgical liquid – I got it like that from the doctors that operated
No, I don’t keep my toe nails, snotties, hair I clean out from my brush, eye etter, ear wax, plaque on my teeth – that’s just disgusting!
But then I ask myself, is keeping all the others bulleted above then not just as disgusting too?
This post in my opinion is disgusting but please understand, it is just me trying to gage if I’m a weirdo or not – cause now I just got a new tooth today that obviously, I brought home – (it was extracted). The thought just crossed my mind and so I just had to ask around. . .

Made a new last.FM image chart using the chart builder. The my recently played tracks can be seen in a chart style and updated automatically. The purpose was to have a image chart inserted as html onto the sidebar of this site; instead of a plain rss on as previously. A preview of the image is shown below – Click on the thumbnail for a better view:

‘Aweh’
pronounced ‘Ah-wear’
This South African word, in real context would mean:
Newsfusion describes it as A Greeting “Aweh my bru” (Hello my friend)also “howzit“, “yooit“, “hoesit“, “yo“.
Urban Dictionary describes the word as A South African slang word used to acknowledge something or greet someone. (Hey guys) , “Oh aweh man!”
The other day, I ordered my meal at this restaurant, the waiter then listened, wrote down what I wanted and “aweh’ed” me. › Continue reading

Imagine you watching your DTV, you sitting watching those boring adverts, adverts showing you snippets of upcoming movies or an interesting documentary or whatever, and while the advert is playing, you grab your remote and hit the OK button to programme that movie being advertised , via an interactive TV schedule.
Wouldn’t that be tight! ? ? ?

If you love listening to music, and if you really are quite in touch with the music industry, if you’re an artist or part of a band, even if you just have gigs and gigs of music saved to your hard drive, please take a moment to just read through my thoughts …
Do you :
- support local upcoming artists
- purchase their original releases
- own any of their branded clothing items
- pay the required fee to gain entrance to their gigs
- make illegal copies of artist’s music
- love finding music available for download and its free
So which would you prefer if told to opt for either Paying a Hefty entrance fee just to see a band that you actually just wanna hear and brag to your friends that you saw them/that artist OR staying home, using the entrance fee money, get more bandwidth, download the music free off the internet.
err…
I am curious about your thoughts…
I was reading through this blog post that says “the plan to distribute music from the Big Four major labels — Sony BMG, Warner Music Group, Universal Music Group and EMI Music — plus Ioda, Naxos, The Orchard and about 150,000 indie labels and bands, all for free…”.
Prepaid digital music accounts
I have/had an account online, I purchase(d) credits/points, browse through the album lists, chose what I wanted to buy but had the option to preview the songs before I finally decided to purchase the album using my prepaid credits/points. I then download it, save to HD or disc and legally own it?
So yes you will argue about bandwidth costs if you are like me a living in South Africa, the place with crap internet connection. You will probably also be arguing about the quality of the sound? Psshh! Some free tracks online are waaay better than some gigs I have attended with the poorest sound engineering out there! This initiative is a good one. You still get to listen to the artist’s music before purchasing it? That’s a good thing not so? At the same time the artists gain more exposure this way.
Sharing online
How else would I share the artist’s link to ‘a preview / the full track’ with my 300 online friends or share it to my feed; how would I if I am sitting with an original CD and its glossy cover in my hands. No one mass mail’s this info to their friends? No I love my gigs; I love the crowd atmosphere at the gigs; I love the fact that four of the biggest music label companies have decided to distribute new albums by streaming entire tracks, for free, online and actual CDs, and satisfying the needs of both artist, label and listener
Freedom of choice
I feel almost like my independence has been given back to me? As in, choice to purchase the original CD, steal from a friend better known as making illegal pirate copies of the CD, freely download or minimal online payments for tracks or only recently, just stream the entire album … for free!
The Universal label has just released Kaiser Chiefs‘ album Off with their heads on last.fm . Yes it is only a stream but at least the sound gets out there!
I was thrilled to read that Oasis was also planning to release their latest album for free; I was not so thrilled to read that the CD entitled Dig Out Your Soul was available on their Myspace page.
Last.fm
Are the founders of last.fm fulfilling their mission TRULY to have every track out there available to the listener for free? If you give it for free, there won’t be any piracy statistics to worry about?
What’s the catch?
Exposure to the world and being exposed to advertising … surely you can figure the rest for yourself. The more people know of you, the higher the number of people would take an interest in you, the higher the need would be to see you live, and then thats the catch…for the fan that is…
Catch the fans
Fans (in my opinion) would then pay any amount of money to see you live. So you make your money back by charging ridiculous amounts at the entrance to your gigs?
Reality
A typical example for South Africans:
Most and probably in fact all artists from South Africa has a profile page on Myspace. Most artists and bands in fact only have a profile there! Yes fair enough if you not from here then advise from this site saying “Get your music heard by fans…on a social networking site like Myspace“ would not be in vain.
If viewing this page from South Africa, given the crappy bandwidth we have, I wait no less than a minute to see the entire page. Next time I won’t go view your page cause I know it takes so long to load? No what means does that band or artist now have to inform me as the fan of anything let alone let me hear their latest song produced? None!
The value
The value is not in the amount of money the fan pays for your music, its not how many overseas offers you get or how many record deals come your way, the value is the amount of exposure you can get. The internet should not be used as a medium to sell more albums but rather to attract new fans for live shows… after all, the bands and artists are meant to entertain?
An after thought for the opposer of my thinking above … This link is only for people who think that free music is taken without the artist’s consent and therefore considered illegal. It is for the narrow minded that do not believe in free music because they will not be rewarded for the efforts!!! Have fun!

I take photographs of things, people, places , anything. Yes I am VERY holey over my photographs but I normally share my picture uploads under the creative commons license but for non commercial use only.
I just don’t think that one should be too protective over a photograph of something that can easily be either duplicated in the eyes of another photographers eyes.
When it comes to my blog posts, yes I agree. I always do my best to try to keep it as original as possible – TRY being the emphasis word here. It is after all your thoughts that you were generous enough to share with others – but like any news, the story changes two people down the line and in the end you have half of the original story when it comes your way again some day.
I thought about this from another angle today…prior to today, I would be highly pissed off at an individual who decided to duplicate my post or refer to sentences of my posts without any source links referring to my post link or mentioning my name or URL anywhere in “their content”. In a way I guess I know what are today’s hot topics and avoid blogging about that to save readers on monotony and overkill of a particular event/story.
What sparked the idea was yet another rant on Twitter by a blogger complaining about his/her content being “stolen”. As any other blogger, you probably reading the same content off your RSS feeds, same sites on the net, and who knows, maybe the two of you had the same idea that suddenly popped into your heads and the one that types faster gets to own the post? or what?
Yes photographs you can always link back to you – text – errr…advice here please?
Just one of my random early morning thoughts I felt like sharing. . .
