On Sunday I was invited to lunch at a friend’s parents’ home -It was her birthday the day before and so celebrations continued the next day.
(now for typing’s sake, I’m abbreviating the word Portuguese to read P…okay?)
Where I grew up, I never had a P friend, never had a P class mate nor did I ever eat at a P‘’s home before.
The area I now reside in used to be all be P owned. In the last five years of my staying here, I have only met one P guy from the area – and so still no real culture check, well at least until Sunday that is.
I felt comfortable and “at home” when I saw the food all laid out on the table. It reminded me of my mom’s Sunday lunch. Each portion in its own glass bowl, each bowl with its own spoon, each person dishes up their own plate of food, all exactly like it used to be for me when I was living with my mom.
The food was no stranger to me – so familiar – even in the taste of it. There was the sweetened butternut with cinnamon, the broccoli and cauliflower, for the meat eaters there was roast chicken, savoury rice but like savoury because its brown of the onions not using spice for rice, sweet potatoes, heck I can’t remember all of the nice stuffies – was just damn good food.
Whilst eating, I looked around in their back yard, noticed how familiar the gardening style was, this again reminded me of my grandmas garden. She used to have grapevines (but the grapes never grew THAT well), the apple tree, the peach/plum whatever tree, guava, banana (even though bananas never really grew) and more.
It got me thinking… › Continue reading

The world is filled with so many convincing, lying, story-telling, false people! Today was yet another reminder of how wary one should be of those who claim to be your friend, they act nice and behind your back, they talk crap about you.
Shame on my landlord’s husband for convincing her that I lost my keys and that he lent his to me. I have two sets of keys and two remote controls since the day I moved in here back in 2003.
So I rock up at their house as I was asked to go see them to check out the new lease and to swap remote controls but I just thought they needed my remote specifically as the remote has four buttons. She also mentioned in her email to me that they were short of one remote which led me to believe that they definitely needed a spare one to open and close the garage. I only use two of the buttons but the other two could possibly be linked to the garage for them to use.
Get there, and I am suddenly attacked › Continue reading

Made a new last.FM image chart using the chart builder. The my recently played tracks can be seen in a chart style and updated automatically. The purpose was to have a image chart inserted as html onto the sidebar of this site; instead of a plain rss on as previously. A preview of the image is shown below – Click on the thumbnail for a better view:

Nearly two years since I first went to see what the buzz was about at this Caribbean restaurant down the road. I remember driving by that place (that was once a house) and seeing all the renovations being done and wondered what the place would eventually turn out to be.
Was thrilled to hear that it was another restaurant and it had such a cool name: Jamaica me Crazy.
Tonight after probably attending for the fiftieth time, I described the food as Heavenly and simply felt the need to compliment their amazing food and also for always making want to go back there again. Hell I even got a very fussy friend liking the place so much, he decided to have his 30th birthday there!
We all know what Mondays can be like at the office; that’s right, ![]()

I have been using the AnyFont WordPress plugin for a while now and I think it is by time I raved about it.
At first I was irritated by the amount of updates that became available but these days I can’t wait for the next update, as each time there is a newer, better, more easier add on to the plugin, which makes it all the more fun to use.
The AnyFont plugin is made by a South African guy named Ryan Peel. This plugin makes an image of your text into whatever font you feel like using at the time.
At this stage, you can customise your blog title, description, widget headers, your post titles and recently added, text within your posts that you write. › Continue reading

There are currently four Mobile Network Providers in South Africa namely Vodacom, MTN, Cell C and Virgin Mobile.
The services offered are alike; so are the service numbers. It can be quite a tedious task trying to remember or finding out which is the correct three digit number to use for whatever mobile service, you wish to use at the time. › Continue reading

I tend to forget birthdays and depend on a list or some sort of recuring appointment in my Google Calendar, to serve as a reminder. In turn the scheduled event will send an sms reminder to my mobile phone.
I found a way to add birthdays from the Facebook Birthday Calendar application, to your Google Calendar.
Step by step instructions:

‘Aweh’
pronounced ‘Ah-wear’
This South African word, in real context would mean:
Newsfusion describes it as A Greeting “Aweh my bru” (Hello my friend)also “howzit“, “yooit“, “hoesit“, “yo“.
Urban Dictionary describes the word as A South African slang word used to acknowledge something or greet someone. (Hey guys) , “Oh aweh man!”
The other day, I ordered my meal at this restaurant, the waiter then listened, wrote down what I wanted and “aweh’ed” me. › Continue reading

Two great documentary releases, Zeitgeist: The Movie and Zeitgeist: Addendum, is currently screening at the Labia theatre in Cape Town.
As reviewed by the Labia theatre “…is the mind-blowing documentary by Peter Joseph, and is the most viewed motion picture on the internet …The award-winning movie takes a staggering look at the lies sold to the world via media, politicians, bankers and those standing to benefit.”
“Its follow-up, ZEITGEIST: ADDENDUM, focuses on the shocking truth behind the monetary system, and › Continue reading

The South African Music Industry community, is slowly waking up to the powers of internet marketing and starting to utilise the services that Twitter has to offer.
By Following¹ these musicians on Twitter, you can read about their upcoming gigs and last minute cancellations or venue changes, band website updates, their new blog posts, new music releases, studio sessions, new music they are working on, concerts and touring, get their links to free downloads and to the minute news updates.
I can’t think of a simpler way for bands to keep in touch with their fan-base. . .
