THAT dreaded day has arrived

Friday, October 24th, 2008 | General+Life Stuff, Health, Personal, Rants | No Comments

In the past, I considered myself to be (i) quite slender; (ii) a physically active individual regardless of not exercising regularly; (iii) have a relatively healthy diet and managed to stay a vegetarian for the past ten years.

Society raised me to be very aware of the fact that one day, just one day IT will happen; so I constantly reminded myself about how the body can expand if I don’t eat correctly etc. Being of so called “Cape-coloured” inheritance, I was led to believe and it cases saw it with my own eyes that the female’s thighs, butt and ass tend to become fuller approximately at the age of twenty five.

It’s quite convenient that IT chose that age to show ITs true colours! In my opinion, majority of the females my age are either getting married soon or just recently got married – I pity the husband that sworn to be there for her through THICK and thin, better or for horridly worse. Those in the minority like me have only their shame and dedication to fix IT; their teddies, friends and family for support…

The day that I dreaded for most of my teens and twenties has arrived. IT snuck up to me without me knowing – well half knowing I guess?

…this note has been dedicated to my many longs that are no long…

• To my dearest black faded pair of Levis jeans. If only my thighs would not have bounced you ‘at the door’ and allowed you to enter. Every time I try to fit into you, the thighs jump in and disturb our meeting. Yes indeed you are under aged as TJC only just bought you for me as a gift back in 2003. Guess under aged denims are for youngsters then and maybe I am just too old skool to be wearing you?

• They say you shouldn’t wear to work what you wear to play? Why oh why was I wearing you my fondest khaki longs? I thought I was thin and I was convinced I could squeeze through that gap between the table and the whiteboard. So to avoid hurting my @(76$$! , instead I slid past the board and the corner of it caught the back of you and I am convinced I even have a scar on my butt to prove it.
• To the one that was the last of the three quarter shorts selection, I wore you on Sunday to the event in Muizenberg. All I wanted to do was squeeze in the change into your pockets? It was only just going to be coins as its broke week and you for some or other reason got frightened and decided that you wanted to make your pocket bigger to accommodate me? Why did you shock SO badly only to reveal half my ass to nearly the entire audience that night? You outlived the brown three quarter too! You know the one that I keep trying to fit into, the one with the strong button and stitching that never seems to fail me; only the material to cover me up is lacking!
• Dearest Soviet denims bought back in 2001 – if only your zip would close and stay closed – I would wear you then.
• To my most recent longs family member, my True Religion jeans. So much for the ripped look of 2007, because in 2008, you totally ripped my heart to pieces when I discovered that you will not be able to be mended.
• If you really sharing this pain with me, read my blog post especially written for and about my Jet jeans

The desired THEN
Age: 20-25
Weight: 65 kgs
Waist: 29-32 cm’s

The dreaded NOW
Age: 26

Weight: (definitely not any of the digits above in the desired section>

To all of you, know that I treated you as a part of me. Yes, you are that part of me that reminds me of my youth! Those were the days when I was able to fit into a size 28 and 30. Yes this is a saddening realisation yet an ecstatically exciting one too – my newest committed challenge.

your eyes…watch them…

Thursday, September 4th, 2008 | Education, General+Life Stuff, Health, Life Lesson, Tips / Learning | 1 Comment

I attended a wellness session today and one of the “things to do” was to take an eye test.

They called it a screening which in turn tells them if I need the eye test or not.

Fancy chin onto the holder thingy machine and you are also told to look straight ahead of you into the lenses or whatever its called. As the screening process continued, I saw the green dot-like thingy moving forward and backward and blurring and clearing again – I also noticed that I tended to wink both my eyes alot at certain times during this process.

See, I work on either of my laptop screens or on the LCD at the office but I was however using the CRT screens up until mid 2006. My mom and both my sisters wear spectacles and so it is only natural that one crosses fingers that “it wouldn’t happen to me”!

Turns out that my eyes were very good; he said that I should “watch my eyes” but he meant that they can still become bad if I don’t look after them. Any symptoms like headaches, dry eyes, constant blinking that become more and more regular are all signs that you should go see your doctor.  Apparently my sight is good when looking at a far distance and cannot focus for long on short distances.

I then inquired about these headaches etc and I have the following reasons for the causes:

  • headache on the sides of your eyes:  short sighted
  • headache in the middle of your head / forehead:  cannot focus short distances; far sighted
  • headache “behind the eye as if the pain knocking outwards from inside your eye ball” (this is how I described it to him and he understood me..yay):   dry air/ congested nasal passage/ usually when too long in an office type air conditioned environment

I have since checked out the internet and found some really cool links to what I think would be important to you and all related to caring for your eyes, computers and eyes etc:
